Re: The state of our IT
Despite us mentioning it numerous times, our technology is currently at an all-time low. We had to tell you in this memo since you constantly lack the time to think about technology. In fact, the only time we hear you mention our technology is when there is a total disaster or when projects are late.
Unfortunately, what you don’t know is, well……what you don’t know. What you really don’t know is that most of us are just being polite when we say we’ll “find a workaround” to avoid problems. When in reality we are just putting Band-Aids on Band-Aids and none of them is holding.
Our decades-old network is tortuously slow and frequently fails. We have stopped using the “it’s always slow” excuse because we’re resigned to it. Perhaps you’ve seen us cringing when we waste our customers’ time because apps don’t load or the system crashes. Frankly, we’re tired of using the fixes required to keep this aging network working.
To add insult to injury, we now live in fear of another major problem: securing sensitive data. While it may be easy for you to avoid dealing with our hacking concerns, it isn’t so simple for the rest of us. We see the volumes of new data that continually flow into the business and we know how easy it is to hack into it right under our noses.
In turn, living in this mess ruins our productivity as we spend time chasing our tails as fast as we can and never get caught up. All for problems we could have prevented in the first place!
So here are 3 suggestions to lessen the consequences of this mess and free us up to focus on our primary duties.
- Hire an IT company to elevate our technology to today’s standards. The ROI from a stable, faster network will more than pay for the expense.
- Use a knowledgeable outside group to increase our cybersecurity efforts and lower the odds that we will get hit by ransomware or several types of known vulnerabilities.
- Hire an outsourced group to manage the technology and security so everything stays healthy from here on out.
You’re probably wondering….what will our designated IT person do once this is all accomplished?
Well, they plan to tackle that long list of projects we never get to. The ones you complain are always behind schedule. Getting them done on time and on budget allows us to move forward with even more improvements and the whole company will be more successful without all this stress.
How’s next Tuesday at 2:00pm look for you? We’ll talk to NPI in advance to do some research and come up with a game plan.
